McDermott plans to sell storage tank, pipe businesses for more than $1bn

Houston-based McDermott International plans to sell its storage tank and U.S. pipe fabrication businesses for more than $1 billion next year. The two business units account for more than 5,300 workers out of McDermott’s global workforce of about 40,000 people. McDermott plans to put the proceeds toward debt reduction. “The (CB&I) tank business in particular is known as a world leader in its served markets,” said McDermott chief executive David Dickson. “Our intent would be to seek the kinds of owners who would value the significant long-term growth potential of each business and who would thus provide attractive prospects for employees and customers.” McDermott posted a small $2 million net profit for the third quarter. In its earnings, McDermott also gave updates on two of the largest liquefied natural gas export pro...

Oil Industry Moves Beyond Digital Hype To Add Value

HOUSTON—As oil and gas companies ride the digital wave, working to find solutions for challenges in the field and gain efficiency, one app is giving Chesapeake Energy a competitive advantage, according to its CEO. The in-house generated app is called Well Tender, and Chesapeake’s Doug Lawler described it as the best example of how digital technology is changing business for the company. “An operator in the field can take out his phone and see if a well is down…how long it’s been offline and can reprioritize his or her route to  go to the well that has the greatest value,” Lawler said Oct. 30 during Deloitte’s Oil & Gas Conference. “Rather than waiting for scada transmission where an operator can be in a distant part of the field or a remote area and not being able to react,” the app gives personnel in the field the ability to prioritize and respond accordingly to minimize downtime. The app can also prove beneficial when it comes to detecting leaks quicker or situations when som...

Next-wave LNG Race Hits Hurdles In US-China Trade War

The delay of a U.S. Gulf Coast liquefied natural gas (LNG) export project has crystallized fears that the U.S. trade battle with China is hampering efforts to line up buyers needed to move ahead with multibillion-dollar builds. The U.S. is positioning itself as the dominant provider of the supercooled fuel as Asian nations shift away from dirtier power sources like coal, and this month’s approval of a giant Canadian project led by Royal Dutch Shell bolstered enthusiasm for the sector overall in North America. That optimism took a hit on Oct. 29, when Australia’s LNG Ltd. delayed until next year a planned decision on whether to build its Louisiana-based Magnolia LNG plant due to problems lining up Chinese customers. And it comes when bankers and analysts in the sector had already questioned whether the next wave of projects in the pipeline would pass muster with investors. from Oilandgasinvestor.com Feeds https://ift.tt/2ERY4HJ
